The Doctor battles the Mindmorphs with his ingenious companions; Val and Sonny, as they let loose their comic creativity!
Part 2 of The Invasion of the Mindmorphs begins with the Doctor’s mind becoming infected and controlled by the insidious Mindmorphs; but Val and Sonny use their intuition and the sonic to save the Doctor, proving themselves to be brilliant companions.

The discovery of planet Zarma’s social and political destruction resonates with our own world’s political system; the horrendous motivations of the Mindmorphs resembled the worst of their false right to superiority.
Adoring Yet Terrifying
As the Doctor, Val and Sonny delve deeper into the planet’s history, they encounter a resistance army who the Doctors helps to re-establish the cosmic thinkers back to their rightful place. Writer Robbie Morrison has delightfully brought the characters to life; the Doctor’s characterisation is perfect, that adoring yet terrifying demeanour of the Twelfth Doctor is brilliantly executed.
Again, the characterisation of Val and Sonny similarly have their own unique voices and their development throughout is heart-warming and inspiring. The style has that perfect ‘Who’ richness to the language; words such as ‘jiggerypockery’ and ‘discombobulate’ are classic forms of verbal comedy that lift the dialogue and add the intellectual silliness that fans adore.

Atmospheric Blasts
Visually, artist Rachel Stott and colourist Rod Fernandes have encompassed atmospheric blasts and hilarious Doctor expressions to create an exciting and compelling world. The detail and dynamic panel shots are an immersive experience; from the purple hazes to the ghostly figures of Val and Sonny’s imagination, the visual spectacle is an assured triumph.
Reassuring End
The concluding chapter to this reassuring story is the reflection of our own world’s weaknesses for power and superiority but with a science-fiction twist. The resonance and beauty of love and creativity makes this a worthy achievement of what fantastic comics should be: exciting, compelling, funny and moving.
