These sinister beings were first introduced in The Impossible Astronaut (2011), anyone who sees them, forgets them after averting their gaze; this ability grants them a powerful influence across history.
The design of these monsters was inspired by The Scream, a painting by expressionist Edvard Munch and created for Doctor Who by Steven Moffat and Neill Gorton of Millennium Effects, the team behind many a Doctor Who monster.
