DOCTOR WHO THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR YEAR TWO #6 – Cover A

Absolutely Stunning. Call me a ‘suck up’ but how could you not pick up and delve into the next release by Titan Comics with a cover like that?

Official Synopsis-

Time to take the fight back to those who have accused the Doctor of horrible war crimes! The TARDIS team needs to break into a remote prison to get the tech that will allow them to pull off an incredible heist… Sounds like they’ll need some expert help

(Shh!) Spoilers- Beware that this article will obviously contain some details about the plot.

Last week saw a new release from Titan’s second year of adventures with the Eleventh Doctor!

To get you up to speed, the alien force that is the Overcast have charged the Doctor for the death of their people, something that appears to have slipped his mind. They have hired The ‘Then and The Now, to make him pay for his crimes. In an attempt to shake them off, the Doctor, ‘comic companion’ Alice and their ever increasing gang have ventured into worlds devastated by the Time War. The Doctor is sure he has been set up and will go to any lengths to clear his name. Including breaking into ‘the most impossible place in the Universe’, but he needs the help of an expert. It won’t be a spoiler to hear that ‘expert’ is Professor River Song.

This year’s releases seem to have enjoyed delivering deep in the ‘toy box’ of Doctor Who’s past. We’ve seen past Doctor, a past companion that can’t be remembered, a new fraction of S0ntarans, and now they taken it one step further.

It’s been a big year for the time travelling archaeologist, appearing at Christmas in ‘The Husbands of River Song’, before making her Big Finish debut in Doom Coalition and her own spin off ‘The Diary of River Song’. It could be argued that she’s been over exposed, but as her time is properly up on TV, I think it’s great that her story that her story is being picked up in other mediums. Here she is ontop form, intelligent, funny and supplying endless one liners, the writers have got her personality nailed.

What I love about Titans range is the amount of time that can be taken over a story. The breath of the adventure can be widen and spread out over a number of issues. This series in particular proves this point as it would seem impossible to squish into a 45 minute TV episode (or even two!)

This issue really keeps up the pace of the pervious realises, with a great mix of comedy, action and danger, and another cliff-hanger that will keep hard-core fans in particular, wanting more. But what is that cliff-hanger?.. Shh! Spoliers!

  1. I’m glad I’m not a huge River fan as I thought her rendering in this issue was atrocious. I haven’t been keen on the art in the Eleventh title (Ten and Twelve have been great) but I really didn’t care for it this issue. Otherwise the story was good and I’m intrigued by the squire (could she be a Clara echo?) and Abslom Daak who deserves his own series again.
