A wedding and a funeral for the Doctor in this week’s episode.
But what did Twitter make of ‘Demons of the Punjab’?
Twitter Reactions
Episode writer Vinay Patel had a spooky pre-show coincidence…
A small PS added today: Had a slightly trippy, auspicious case of life imitating art – went home to see my grandmother before she goes to India next week…and she, knowing nothing of this episode, gave me my dead grandfather’s broken old watch…#DemonsOfThePunjab pic.twitter.com/C3UP0jnU2q

And our old friend Anjili Mohindra approved…
‘You might wanna keep that to yourself, right now’… oh Vinay, YOU ROCK!!! #Partition #DecolonisingBants #DoctorWho INCREDIBLE EP!!

People were on board for a Universe of Yaz.
It's also the episode I've been waiting for from Yaz, @MandipGill's performance was incredible. It was a beautiful story with her family, mixed in with a subtle historical twist. #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/3V0czTy4Sa

Really love that final scene between Yaz and her Nani #DoctorWho

I quite liked that episode of Doctor Who – Chose an interesting time period, gave Yaz some well needed character development and I thought the aliens were pretty interesting too #DoctorWho

Plus it was educational…
Loved #DoctorWho tonight. As a British Pakistani, #DemonsOfThePunjab was a moving and emotional experience. Never have I seen partition day handled in such a respectful way, showing the real issues that came from it and showing the importance of unity over division. Bravo!

That was truly wonderful, such a poignant impactful episode.
That shot of a poppy field completely captured the whole story. It’s certainly made me want to read more on the Partition of India.#DoctorWho

Thought #doctorwho tonight was very good – a whole generation has just learnt about partition too, something I was never taught at school. That on the back of the Rosa Parks episode too – just great.

I didn't know much about the Partition of India and I feel like I learnt something really important and valuable from Demons of the Punjab. Educational, thrilling and deeply moving. I want to listen to that end theme on loop! #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/uv8SoYjoXt

It's interesting that the aliens aren't the villains in the Demons of Punjab but rather it's the bigotry of humans and society. I'm glad that I got to know more about the Partition. #DoctorWho

Well I definitely enjoyed that more than last week’s. It gave me insight to a period in history I never knew about prior and at it’s core told a good story. The last five minutes were heartbreaking for Yaz and really added emotional weight to the story. #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/XEpqgjetPP

(Mostly)
#DoctorWho got the wrong dateof partition. it wasn’t 17 August it was 14-15 August.

The Thijarians made for thought-provoking demons.
#DoctorWho teaching us again that monsters aren’t just found under your bed or in outer space but found in both our society and human history #DemonsOfThePunjab
— Kieran James Cleaves (@kieran_keek) November 11, 2018
Okay, but is anyone else kinda liking the fact that episode by episode we learn that you don't always need aliens to be monsters. #DoctorWho
— Clara (@Just2BeClara) November 11, 2018
I really enjoyed that but starting to feel it's time #DoctorWho was pitted against some proper threatening monsters.
— Andi (@AndiMcLellan) November 11, 2018
Really liked tonight’s episode of #DoctorWho. Timely, educational and some beautiful visuals too. There was the odd on-the-nose dialogue again (see some Ryan’s lines inside the spaceship), but the Thijarians were very cool aliens. Props to the costume department!

And the costumer enjoyed working on it…
Another brilliant educational episode of Doctor Who which I had the pleasure of looking after the Thijarians? thank you @HolmanRay for letting me live my Sci-fi costume dream? #DoctorWho

Even if it got a little dark near the end.
"Is it me" asks my Beloved "or are these just getting a little… bleak…? Every week, just waiting for someone to die…"
"Because of humans" I add "but if those are the stories they want to tell…"#DoctorWho— MAW Holmes (@MAW_H) November 11, 2018
With a stunning final theme, composer Segun Akinola told us the score…
#ShahidAbbasKhan. This is the name of an almost indescribable talent. We were all left speechless every time you sang a note. Thank you for letting us witness it in-person. @bbcdoctorwho #DoctorWho #Music #BehindTheMusic

The music tonight really was on another level. #DoctorWho #DemonsOfThePunjab

But it was Vinay Patel himself who said it best…
That end theme ?. There are so many stories to be told about Partition – this is only one, and whilst it was an honour to tell it, I’d urge you to seek out more. Hopefully the previous tweets will help with that. Thanks for having me in the Whoniverse x #DemonsOfThePunjab pic.twitter.com/Rox9Ac3bfs
