Doctor Who: Terror of the Zygons at the BFI

The Loch Ness Monster attacks the South Bank of the Thames (again) as the Terror of the Zygons strikes the BFI this September

The British Film Institute is once again supporting the Doctor Who Collection Blu-ray range with a screening of a newly restored story. Fans will get a chance to see Terror of the Zygons at the BFI in Southbank in London, on the 20th of September. It will be accompanied by a showing by the new documentary Worlds Within: The Life of Ian Marter and a Q&A with produced Philip Hinchcliffe.

The four part serial Terror of the Zygons was the first story of Doctor Who’s 1975/1976 season. Starring the iconic TARDIS team of the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan, it also introduced classic shape-shifting villains the Zygons. When oil rigs come under attack from some force able to rip them to shreds, UNIT’s Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart summons the Doctor to Scotland. The Doctor has a theory about exactly what’s causing the destruction, but it couldn’t really be the Loch Ness Monster. Could it?

Worlds Within explores the life of much missed actor and writer Ian Marter

Meanwhile, Worlds Within: The Life of Ian Marter celebrates the actor who brought Harry Sullivan to life. Marter appeared in two seasons of Doctor Who as the UNIT surgeon including Season 13’a Terror of the Zygons and The Android Invasion. In addition, he was also a writer who penned several highly regarded novelisations to the Target Books range.

Worlds Within is the latest in the Collection series of documentaries exploring the lives of writers, directors, and actors who sadly passed away before the advent of the DVD range. Often praised as highlights of the range, they offer an opportunity to get to learn more about those who left a substantial mark on Doctor Who but never get a chance to contribute to commentaries or special features.

Tickets for the screening go on sale to BFI Patrons on 4 August, BFI Members on 5 August, and to the general public on 7 August.

Meanwhile, there’s still no exact date for the release of Doctor Who: The Collection – Season 13. However, based on the dates of previous BFI screenings it will probably be the very end of September or early October. Featuring all 26 episodes of one of Doctor Who’s most loved seasons, and a host of new extras, as well as existing ones from the DVD range, it’s the ultimate edition of Season 13.
