BlogtorWho takes a look at the new batch of Doctor Who companions with a closer look at Mandip Gill, who will play Yasmin.
Before being announced as a new Doctor Who companion, Mandip Gill was probably best known for playing Phoebe McQueen (formerly Jackson) for three years in the long-running UK soap opera Hollyoaks. Her character was introduced as a homeless teenager and was killed off as part of a storyline involving a ‘Gloved Hand Killer’. Fellow new companion Tosin Cole is a fellow Hollyoaks alumni.
Mandip has had a guest role in BBC comedy Cuckoo, which stars Greg Davies, and another in daytime soap Doctors. She has also played a small role in the BBC’s flagship Saturday evening show Casualty.
Later in 2017, Mandip will star in new BBC drama Love, Lies and Records written by Kay Mellor (Band of Gold, Fat Friends and The Syndicate).
Mandip is beyond excited at joining the cast of Doctor Who, and says “Certain roles seem unattainable and this is one of those, so much so I didn’t believe it to be true for the first few weeks.”
Well, Mandip – it is true and we can’t wait to see you, Jodie and the new cast of companions.
The BBC has confirmed that the next series of Doctor Who will air in Autumn 2018 starting with a special hour-long show for the launch.
