The new DWM reveals that someone from the Tom Baker era is meeting Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor
Writing exclusively for Doctor Who Magazine in his Production Notes column, script editor Scott Handcock has teased that we should expect to see a familiar face in Series 14. More specifically in the same episode which guest stars Jinkx Monsoon, and which is probably also the one which takes place in the 1960s. It will feature someone from the Tom Baker era.
Many fans have been feverishly compiling lists of who it might be, from allies like Romana, to monsters like the Krynoid. But Blogtor Who is quite taken by a suggestion by Will Brooks on Twitter: June Hudson. Handcock doesn’t actually specify that he’s talking about a fictional character seen on screen during the Baker era. So it could be an actor returning in a new role. But the inclusion of Hudson would be even more fun. She was the costume designer for eight stories between Seasons 16 and 18, and is particularly famous for her collaborations with actor Lalla Ward is creating some of Romana’s most iconic looks.

We won’t know the identity of our mystery guest until next year, as the Bad Wolf team continue their masterful teasing
Hudson has also moved into acting in more recent years, being fabulous in a number of small roles. You may have recognized her as the late, rugby loving, mother in the Guinness ad The Purse, making her two sons promise to spend their inheritance on following the Six Nations tour. While she’s also had small roles in films like Johnny English Strikes Again, and series like Stella, This Country, and even Doctor Who spin-off Class.
Who better than to cameo in Series 14, bumping into possibly our most fashion forward Time Lord ever? But we’ll have to wait until next year to find out one way of the other ig it’s June Hudson or some more obvious choice. Who knows? Maybe it will be Tom Georgeson as the Detective Inspector who finds Aunt Vanessa in the glove compartment in Logopolis?
