ITV have released the very first clip of Jenna Coleman in the leading role of their brand new epic drama series ‘Victoria’, due to air later this year.

The clip shows Victoria during her coronation stating ” I know that I am young but I am ready for the great responsibility that lies before me”.

The brand new drama was announced by ITV last year. It follows the early life of Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman), from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Victoria went on to rule for 63 years and was our longest-serving monarch until she was overtaken by Elizabeth II on 9th September last year.

Victoria is made by Mammoth Screen, producers of Poldark (BBC One) and Endeavour (ITV), and is created and written by acclaimed novelist Daisy Goodwin, in her screenwriting debut. Daisy serves as executive producer alongside Dan McCulloch (Endeavour, Indian Summers) and Mammoth Screen’s Managing Director Damien Timmer (Parade’s End, Poldark).

The stellar cast includes Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle, The Pillars of the Earth) as Lord Melbourne, her first prime minister and intimate friend; Tom Hughes (Dancing on the Edge) as her husband Prince Albert; Alex Jennings (The Lady in the Van) as Leopold I, King of Belgium and uncle to both Victoria and Albert; Paul Rhys (Borgia, Being Human) as Sir John Conroy, the ambitious controller of the household of Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent; and Peter Firth (MI-5) as Victoria’s conniving uncle, the Duke of Cumberland.

The cast includes two familiar faces from Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) will play Mrs Jenkins, Victoria’s senior dresser and Tommy Knight (Luke Smith – Sarah Jane) plays Brodie (character unknown).

Victoria will open in the UK on ITV with a 90-minute episode, on a date yet to be confirmed. But while you wait you can keep up with all the news via a dedicated Facebook page.
