Peter Capaldi and other familiar faces have taken part in a new UNHCR petition video revealed exclusively on Facebook.

Capaldi is joined by Keira Knightley, Juliet Stevenson, Stanley Tucci, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kit Harington, Douglas Booth, Jesse Eisenberg and Neil Gaiman as they perform the rhythmic poem ‘What They Took With Them’.

The poem was written by Jenifer Toksvig and was inspired by stories and first-hand testimonies from refugees forced to flee their homes and items they took with them. One of the sources for the poem was a photography project by Brian Sokol’s, ‘The Most Important Thing,’ made in collaboration with UNHCR. Many of Brian’s photos, along with firsthand accounts from the refugees he photographed, are featured in the film.

The film has been produced to encourage people to support the #WithRefugees petition to help ensure refugees have the basics to build back their lives. The petition is to be delivered to UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly high-level summit on September 19th where it hopes to help send a message to governments all over the world that they must act and help the large movement of refugees and migrants.

Peter Capaldi is a big supporter of UNHCR. In 2015 he joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to change the public’s perception of refugees. He travelled to Jordan to visit a sprawling Syrian refugee camp. Roughly 83,000 refugees have settled there, and the camp may become a more permanent solution for some of the 5 million Syrians who have fled their country, ravaged by a brutal civil war.
