Back in December the Peter Capaldi News website reported that Peter Capaldi was showing his support for refugees with a visit to Jordan. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has now released a moving video showing Capaldi’s visit to a camp in Jordan.
On his visit Capaldi met with Syrian families living in refugee camps and towns and cities across Jordan and helped communicate some of their extraordinary stories of escape and survival and helped highlight the vital role of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in supporting and protecting refugees.
One of the big surprises was the use of technology to support the refugees to enable them to access essentials such as their bank accounts and to accurately record identities. Capaldi was moved by the dignity of survivors who’ve witnessed the horrors of war and by the sacrifices made by parents to give their children a better chance.
These camps are not full of people sitting saying, “Oh, it’d be great to go to Europe” or “It’d be great to go to America”…they just want to go home.
