This week we’re introducing you to the Cast and Crew of “The Lie of the Land”

Writer: Toby Whithouse

Writer of ‘The Lie of the Land’ Toby Whithouse has been writing for Doctor Who since 2006. His first story, School Reunion, saw the return of beloved companion, Sarah Jane Smith, and robot dog, K-9.   Since then, Toby has penned five more episodes: The Vampires of Venice, The God Complex, A Town Called Mercy, Under the Lake/Before the Flood. He also wrote Torchwood episode Greeks Bearing Gifts for series one, back in 2006.

Known for creating acclaimed BBC Three drama, Being Human, this series featured many actors and writers who would go on to write for Doctor Who including, Russell Tovey who played Alonso in the 2007 Christmas Special, Voyage of the Damned, and writers Sarah Dollard and Jamie Mathieson.

Director: Wayne Yip

Wayne Yip began his career as a writer and director in partnership with Alex Garcia, where he worked on music videos. After directing the award-winning Diego’s Story (2009), he went on to direct Tom Bidwell’s Would Like to Meet (2010) for Channel 4’s ‘Coming Up’.

After this, he progressed onto the lead block of Misfits (2012) Series 3 and the second block of Dennis Kelly’s Utopia (2013). Most recently, Yip finished filming the last ever episode of Misfits which will air later this year.

Guest Star: Michelle Gomez – Missy

No one who watches Doctor Who could miss Michelle Gomez but thought we’d give you a few bits and pieces of some of her other work.

Michelle Gomez who plays Missy is known for her roles in comedy drama The Acid House (1998), comedy drama TV series The Green Wing (2004) and most recently, Gotham (2015) and Doctor Who since 2014.

Guest star Beatrice Curnew who played the Group Commander has appeared in the James Bond (2012) film Skyfall, family drama The Christmas Candle (2013) and comedy drama Youth (2015).

Emma Handy who played the Mother is known for her roles in the film Velvet Goldmine (1998) biography romance drama Iris (2001), and crime drama Wire in the Blood (2003-2008).

Guest Star: Jamie Hill – The Monks

Jamie Hill graduated from university in Cardiff where the second assistant director of Doctor Who presented him with his BBC ID, who then proceeded to ask Jamie how tall he was. Being the right height for a Doctor Who monster, Jamie was offered the role of a Silent to feature in The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon (2012), then the Mummy in The Mummy on the Orient Express (2014), and more recently, various Monks in the Series 10 episodes Extremis, The Pyramid at the End of the World and The Lie of the Land.

Also, Jamie is now the manager of the Doctor Who Experience at Cardiff Bay, where he has worked for five years.

Other Guest Stars:

Actor Solomon Israel who plays Richard trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and his known for his roles in the short films Growing (2006), Malachi (2014) and in comedy drama Diary of a Tired Man (2008).

Rosie Jane who plays Bill’s Mum also featured in the first episode of Series 10, The Pilot, appearing in old photographs Bill discovers, courtesy of The Doctor.

Stewart Wright who plays Alan is most known for his roles in comedy The Wild West and ITV’s Doc Martin. He’s appeared on stage at the Bristol Old Vic and is also a writer, where he was commissioned to write a series of short comedies for BBC Radio Four.
