The BBC have two exciting new Doctor Who audio books this month and one of them is a new 4th Doctor Adventure!

First up we have a reading of the classic First Doctor story, ‘The Ark’. ‘The Ark was a four-part story back in 1966 and this unabridged reading is based on the novelisation by writer Paul Erickson. Co-writer of the TV episode Lesley Scott had no contributions to the novel. This approximately 4 hour reading is narrated by non-other than Peter Purves. Purves famously played companion extraordinaire Steven, who happens to have a role in this story.

It is ten million years in the future, and the Earth is about to plunge into the Sun. A gigantic Space Ark has been launched, to take the last of humanity to a new life on the planet Refusis II. Accompanying the humans on their journey are the Monoids, strange reptilian creatures from an alien world.

When the TARDIS materialises on board, the Doctor and his friends are greeted with suspicion, which soon turns to open hostility when Dodo inadvertently infects the Ark’s crew with a long-forgotten virus. It is an accident which will have a terrible effect on mankind, an effect which will last for seven hundred years…

Original 4th Doctor Audio Adventure

We also have a brand new adventure featuring the Fourth Doctor written by Paul Magrs. The excellently titled ‘The Thing From The Sea’ has an approximate running time of an hour and 10 minutes. Narrated by Susan Jameson, perhaps better known as Mrs. Wibbsey, this adventure takes place after the famous Nest Cottage Chronicles.

The outstanding cover artwork is certainly evocative. If the story is as near interesting as the artwork, and with Paul Magrs I would expect no less, this promises to be a gripping tale.

In 18th Century coastal Italy, the local fishermen haul in an extraordinary catch: a gigantic serpent. The Doctor identifies it as an alien, but to the ailing locals this fabled sea creature has the capacity to heal them – if only Count Otto will share it with them. When Mrs Wibbsey comes under the influence of the Count, the Doctor finds himself snared by the wicked power of a seemingly immortal magician, the infamous Cagliostro!

Both of these adventures are available to purchase today. Click on the links below to order your story, or stories, of choice!
