It’s back to the 1950’s in October 2021, as the Torchwood Soho gang reunites once more
Torchwood Soho: Ashenden, the epic full cast audio adventure for the Doctor Who spin-off from Big Finish Productions, features Samuel Barnett’s return to the role of agent Norton Fulgate, as he enlists the help of Sergeant Andy Davidson (Tom Price), his old boss Lizbeth Hayhoe (Dervla Kirwan) and journalist Gideon Lyme (Joe Shire) to fight against a creeping darkness – and to stop it before Norton’s past catches up with him…
The new story is once again written by James Goss, who wrote previous volume Parasite. And his first order of business was finding a way to include Dervla Kirwan’s Lizbeth, despite her dying gruesomely last time around. “I’m so pleased we’re doing a second Torchwood Soho boxset,” he explains, “We obviously had to find a way of bringing the acid-tongued boss of 1950s Torchwood back from the dead as we just couldn’t face doing it without Dervla Kirwan. So, we’ve reunited her with Tom Price, Sam Barnett and Joe Shire in a story that’s about alien invasions and town planning.
“There’s something wrong in the commuter town of Ashenden and the secret to it lies in Torchwood’s past. It’s a tribute to the alien paranoia movies of the period, but it’s also a celebration of how a bunch of unusual outsiders really can save the day.”
On the return of Lizbeth Hayhoe, Dervla Kirwan herself is happy to rise from the grave. “She’s a fabulous character,” she says, “I adore how rude she is. In real life I’m quite a shy person and I’d never say the kind of things she just comes out with without even a thought about the consequences.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever been resurrected and I’m loving it.”
