Torchwood may not have made it back to the TV, but it has certainly made its presence felt in the world of Titan Comics as it returns this month for a fourth action-packed story.
In Torchwood: World Without End part 3, Captain Jack and Gwen continue their adventures aboard the Ice Maiden as they attempt to investigate the murder of Sir James Sterling, master of Torchwood House. The crew has battled ninjas and is now curious about Rona, a mysterious stowaway on the Ice Maiden.
A MOMENT OF CALM

For once, there is a moment of calm on the Ice Maiden as CaptainJ and Shelley, the ship’s brilliant hologram, begin to probe the identity of Rona as she sleeps. There is some wonderful dialogue about the chameleon circuit and vortex manipulator – the joys of travelling with Captain Jack! – and the two begin to dig deeper into the mystery of Rona’s true intentions on the ship.
Captain Jack has also realised that he knows the source of many of the disruptions around the Ice Maiden – an old foe called the Navigators, a species looking for new worlds to colonise. Jack discovers a Yisotega Telescope, used by the Navigators, but only Gwen can use it. The equipment responds only to her because of her pregnancy, and the telescope gives new meaning to the word interactive.
GAME CHANGER
Best of all in this issue is the rarest of the rare – a plot twist so fresh that it was actually surprising. Nothing about this adventure is at it seems, and the first three chapters of ‘World Without End’ provide a version of reality that suddenly and thrillingly shifts. The twist cannot be revealed here but it’s an actual game changer.

The issue ends with a delicious cliffhanger, as well as a fantastic feature called Script to Strip. Page six happened to be one of the most striking pages in a gorgeously illustrated issue. The Script to Strip features describes exactly how the penciler Pasquale Qualano and colorist Marco Lesko worked together to create such a stunning page in a stunning issue.
A PLEASURE TO READ
‘World Without End’ has been an incredibly fun and wonderful read, and this chapter is an absolute delight. The writing is sharp, witty, and clever, and the issue looks beautiful. What a pleasure to read, although it makes the reader long even more for the return of Captain Jack and the Torchwood team.
