As June rapidly approaches so too does the launch of Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor from Titan Comics. Following his brief appearance in the Free Comic Book Day release, the Seventh Doctor debuts in a three part series; Operation Volcano. Covers by Alice X. Zhang, Christopher Jones and Will Brooks for the issues have been revealed. To mark the launch of the series a signing will also take place later in the month.
Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor expands Titan Comics’ hugely popular and critically acclaimed range of Doctor Who comics. Hitting stores and digital platforms in June 2018, with a double-sized first issue, Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor is written by former Script Editor Andrew Cartmel and writer Ben Aaronovitch. Aaronovitch and Cartmel return to the Seventh Doctor 30 years after the transmission of the classic story ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’.
Bringing the story to the page is comics illustrator Christopher Jones (The Third Doctor) and colourist Marco Lesko (The Ninth Doctor). It is set to be an exciting adventure for the Seventh Doctor and his companion Ace. Accompanying the main story is a back-up strip written by Richard Dinnick with art by Jessica Martin. Martin actually appeared as Mags alongside the Seventh Doctor and Ace in ‘The Greatest Show In The Galaxy’ in 1988. Colours for the back-up strip are also provided by Charlie Kirchoff.
The art cover for Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor #1 from Alice X. Zhang has been revealed. Covers for the second and third issues have also been unveiled with work from Christopher Jones and Will Brooks. Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor #3 features a cover from Christopher Jones showcasing some of the Seventh Doctor’s TV foes. The alternative cover for that issue from Will Brooks is inspired by the 1988 story ‘The Happiness Patrol’. Tough to pick between those two pieces of art!
An unknown alien intelligence in orbit around the Earth. Astronauts under attack. A terrifying, mysterious landing in the Australian interior. The future of the world itself at stake. Counter Measures activated. The Seventh Doctor and Ace are slap bang in the middle of it all! This is OPERATION VOLCANO!
To celebrate the range Ben Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel will be signing copies of Doctor Who: Seventh Doctor #1 at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore. Aaronovitch and Cartmel will be joined by Lee Sullivan to sign copies of ‘Rivers of London’. Cartmel will also be signing copies of ‘The Vinyl Detective’. This signing takes place on Wednesday 20th June from 6 – 7pm. For those unable to attend a signed edition of Doctor Who: Seventh Doctor #1 is also available for order.
