Karen Gillan’s new action film arrives in British cinemas in September
It’s already promising to be one of the most fun, wildest, rides of 2021. And at last Gunpowder Milkshake has a UK release date. The high powered action film starring Karen Gillan will be released in cinemas, and via Sky Cinema, simultaneously on the 17th of September. The film sees the former Doctor Who star step into the trainers of an elite assassin having a terrible night. Hired to eliminate a gang of thieves who’ve stolen from the wrong people, she instead uncovers a kidnap plot. Freeing the child, Gillan’s Eva finds herself on the run, every criminal in the city now hunting them down. Eva has only one place left to turn – her equally lethal mother Scarlet played by Lena Headey (Games of Thrones, Dredd). Together with a trio of hitwomen played by Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh and Angela Basset, they get ready for war.
The film also features Samuel Anderson (Danny Pink in Doctor Who) as David, and Michael Smiley (Into the Dalek) as Ricky.
Meanwhile, Gunpowder Milkshake will arrive in the US on Netflix in July
Originally set to arrive in cinemas in 2020, Gunpowder Milkshake’s release date inevitably shifted during the pandemic as cinemas around the world closed their doors. It will not premiere in the United States on Netflix on the 14th of July. But how and when it would appear in the United Kingdom was uncertain until now. The film continues Karen Gillan’s string of roles since leaving Doctor Who. She’s appeared in some of the world’s biggest movies of recent years, playing Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, as well as Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji films. She’s also become a writer and director, with her film The Party’s Just Beginning, about a woman struggling to hold her life together as the anniversary of her best friend’s suicide approaches, being widely praised.
