At the Musée d’Orsay, the Doctor comforts Amy after she learns Vincent Van Gogh’s life didn’t end happily, despite previously showing the troubled painter getting the credit he deserves at a present day exhibit. He explains that their adventure with him while it did nothing to prevent his suicide, it added some goodness to his life.
