The Time of the Doctor (2013)

In the latest issue of the wonderful Doctor Who Magazine (issue 486), current show runner Steven Moffat has been discussing the regeneration limit for The Doctor. In his regular feature in the publication, Moffat answers questions from fans; Finlay Worrallo asked:

“In Kill The Moon, The Doctor implies that he doesn’t know how many regenerations he has left. Is it possible he has an infinite amount?”

Steven Moffat answered:
“Well, he certainly has a new cycle, so it’s not a problem that’s going to worry us for a long time. In fact, at the current rate of Doctors, I really don’t think I’ll be involved in that discussion again.”
