Demon Music Group are releasing vinyl versions of Galaxy 4 and Destiny of the Daleks for Record Store Day 2019

This year’s Doctor Who releases for the eternally popular Record Store Day have been revealed.

Leading the way is the classic, and largely lost, William Hartnell adventure from 1965 – Galaxy 4. Peter Purves, who played companion Steven Taylor, provides linking adaptation for the original soundtrack. Two Heavyweight 180g discs of orange vinyl with purple splatter contain the classic adventure. The Doctor and Steven, as well as Maureen O’Brien’s Vicki, encounters the beautiful Drahvins led by Maaga (Stephanie Bidmead). But should they trust them or the gruesome Rills as both groups attempt to escape a dying planet?

It’s joined by Destiny of the Daleks – the soundtrack of the 1979 adventure with linking narration by Lalla Ward. Ward, of course, features in the story itself as Romana, alongside Tom Baker’s Doctor and Davros, creator of the Daleks, as played by David Gooderson. The adventure, written by Terry Nation and script edited by the legendary Douglas Adams. It sees the two Time Lords return to the Dalek homeworld of Skaro. There they discover the Daleks feverishly hunting Davros’ final resting place. For he holds their only chance to turn the tide in their latest war. Destiny of the Daleks is presented across two heavyweight 180g pieces of red with blue splatter vinyl.

This isn’t the first time Doctor Who has participated in Record Store Day. In 2016 the classic 1970s album version of Genesis of the Daleks was reproduced. Meanwhile 2017 included a similar reproduction of the vintage Tom Baker/Lis Sladen audio story Doctor Who and the Pescatons. Last year The Tomb of the Cybermen and City of Death were part of the Record Story Day lineup.

The new releases are part of Demon Music Group’s new Vinyl Who line, which has recently seen The Daleks’ Master Plan released on vinyl.

Record Store Day 2019 will take place on Saturday 13th April 2019.

Record Store Day is the one day of the year when over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.

Although there’s only one Record Store Day a year, we also work throughout the year to celebrate our independent record stores by spotlighting exclusive releases, events and special news.
