It is with deep sadness that BlogtorWho reports the death of Sir Ken Dodd. A popular comedian he was also a guest actor in Doctor Who story ‘Delta and the Bannermen’ in 1987.
Sir Ken Dodd appeared in the cameo role of The Tollmaster in the Season 24 story opposite Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor. When the Seventh Doctor and Mel arrived at toll port G715 The Tollmaster informed them that they were the ten billionth customers and had won a Nostalgia Tours trip to Disneyland of 1959. You can check out the scene in the video below. In a later scene Gavrok and the Bannermen arrived searching for the Chimeron Queen, who had escaped on the Nostalgia Tours bus. Dodd’s character refused to reveal the bus’ destination, claiming it was more than his job’s worth. Sadly Gavrok shot The Tollmaster dead as he fled.
A comedian from Liverpool, Ken Dodd’s career spanned over 60 years. He was perhaps the last of the entertainers from the old Music Hall era. Performing every night allowed Dodd to perfect his skills and ability at making people laugh. Dodd was once entered the Guinness Book of Records for telling jokes at a rate of 10 a minute for over three hours. Famous for his wild hair and teeth, his ‘tickling stick’ and the Diddymen, he proved to be one of the UK’s most popular comedians. In December 2016 Ken Dodd was awarded a knighthood and was recently released from hospital following a severe chest infection. His legacy and the laughter he generated for millions of people will forever be remembered.
