Robert Glenister and Goran Višnjić will join the Doctor for a historical adventure next year
This week has already revealed that Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry will be the principal guest stars in the season premiere. Now the guest stars for subsequent Doctor Who episodes are coming to light too. Next up are Goran Višnjić and Robert Glenister who will both be appearing in a Series 12 episode alongside Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor.
Both will be very familiar faces to both TV and movie audiences. Višnjić is perhaps best known as one of the heartthrobs in classic medical drama ER, and more recently from Netflix’s dark comedy Santa Clarita Diet, and the David Fincher adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He’s also no stranger to time meddling, having starred as Flynn in two season of NBC’s time travel adventure show Timeless.
Meanwhile Glenister, who can currently be heard playing Sir Laurence Oliver in BBC Radio 4’s docudrama The National, has been a mainstay of British television for decades. From Soldier, Soldier in the 1990s, to Spooks, Hustle, and Cold Feet, he’s had long running roles in some of its biggest shows. He was also the Narrator for Chris Chibnall’s Law & Order: UK, which starred Bradley Walsh, Peter Davison and Freema Agyeman.
Alhough Glenister takes on a new role for 2020, Doctor Who fans may have particular reason to remember him
“I first appeared in Doctor Who in The Caves of Androzani at the tender age of 24 in 1984,” recalls Glenister. “Thirty five years later I got to be in it again at the not so tender age of nearly 60. How time flies!”
Goran Višnjić, meanwhile, is delighted to be taking his first role on the show, saying “I’ve always been a huge fan of Doctor Who, so when the offer came, it made me so happy to be part of the show and it turned into this awesome, dream job!” Višnjić, also teased that the episode featuring himself and Glenister will be one of Team TARDIS’s journeys into the past as he gets to “play one of my favorite people in history.”
Doctor Who Executive Producer, Matt Strevens, says that “one of the great joys of Doctor Who are the legendary actors who want to come and join in the Doctor’s adventures. We were thrilled to welcome Goran and Robert, whose worked we’ve loved and admired for years. They create two iconic characters who are going to delight and entertain.”
Doctor Who will return in early 2020
Jodie Whittaker will reprise her role as the Thirteenth Doctor alongside Tosin Cole (Ryan) Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham) who are all returning for their second series. Chris Chibnall returns as showrunner with Matt Strevens as Executive Producer.
