Pearl Mackie and Peter Capaldi on set filming of series 10 (c) BBC
Filming for series 10 of Doctor Who began on 20th June with Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie filming together for the first time on the grounds of Cardiff University.
More recently, still photos, videos and social media updates have started to filter in from the set. Here’s what we know so far.
The special effects team on the set of Doctor Who painted Cardiff University white with artificial snow for a filming sequence. This seems to suggest a wintry meeting for the Doctor and his new companion. Since then, we have seen plenty of pictures cropping up of Peter and Pearl on set. We’ve also seen them joined by Matt Lucas who played Nardole in ‘The Husbands of River Song’. While he appears in the same costume, his body seems to be his own once again.
One of the biggest things to get Doctor Who fans excited were rumours running rife that Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith might be returning the show. The question was posed to Matt in a fan Q&A session with the Guardian and he refuted the suggestion, saying that he watched the show now only as a fan.
As filming continues, the BBC, as well as cast and crew members have been releasing updates and behind the scenes tidbits. Here’s what they’ve been sharing on social media this week.
Matt Lucas was noticeable on social media as he returned to the set posting the first photo of the new TARDIS team.
Meanwhile, new companion Pearl Mackie went on Twitter to share her excitement over the latest read through and what’s ahead.
Amazing read through for Block 2 of @bbcdoctorwho last night! Excellent scripts and wonderful cast! Can't wait. ????

The Real SFX team, those many talents behind the camera shared a photo of one of their crew dressing up the set with artificial snow ready for the next shot.

While inside where it might seem a bit warmer we got a blackboard teaser with some very familiar handwriting from @bbcdoctorwho. Looks like the Doctor is doing some explaining – again!
And just the other day we got a glimpse of the TARDIS back on set for a brand new round of time and space adventures.
Of course, that’s just the last week. Here’s a quick round-up of earlier developments in case you missed anything:
We got a short video featuring a first look at Pearl Mackie on set playing the new companion Bill.
And Matt Lucas, clearly happy to be back recorded a short video marking his return.
In addition, several still photos were released from the set. A lovely shot of Pearl Mackie looking relaxed and at home already on the Doctor Who set. While Peter Capaldi met with fans. Happy to chat and sign autographs.
Finally on Facebook, the Doctor Who page showed us more hugging and provided a link to the newest instalment of The Fan Show and their thoughts on the new series. Not to mention another look at the Twelfth Doctor’s smart new coat.
That’s the news as it stands from series 10 of Doctor Who so far. We’ll continue to keep you posted each as more information becomes available.
