Former Doctor Who show-runner Russell T Davies has been nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for his Channel 4 show Cucumber.

The RTS has announced the nominees for the 2016 awards. Gongs will be presented at a star-studded awards ceremony that will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, on March 22.

Russell “The” Davies is nominated is the Drama Writer category for the excellent Cucumber, broadcast last year on Channel 4. Cucumber is an eight part series about middle-aged gay men and the Manchester gay scene. If you missed it when it was broadcast, all of the episodes are available as a box set on Channel 4’s All4 on demand service along with companion series Banana and Tofu.

Also in with RTS nominations are some past Doctor Who actors. Up for the Best Actress Award is Claire Rushbrook who played Ida Scott in 2006 two-parter The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and The Doctor’s Wife star Suranne Jones for her incredible turn as Gemma Foster in Doctor Foster.
