Torchwood may not have made it back to the TV but it has certainly made its presence felt in the world of Titan Comics as it returns this month for a third action-packed story.

Previously in Torchwood: World Without End part 2….

Sir James Sterling, the master of Torchwood House in Scotland (viewers will remember this manor from the Doctor Who episode “Tooth and Claw”), has been murdered. His wife, Lady Karina, must find his notes to send to Captain Jack. Meanwhile, Jack has been reunited with Gwen on the Ice Maiden, a floating home for Torchwood.

Gilly

This third of the Torchwood comic book series returns to Torchwood Manor, just after the murder of Sir James. A delightful note introduces Gilly, butler to Sir James. It is revealed that Gilly has given Lady Karina a doctored version of her late husband’s journal. What else is Gilly hiding? Gilly knows that the Lady will soon “find oot,” as he says in a charming brogue.

Sexy, Sleazy

Back on the Ice Maiden, Captain Jack , Gwen, and the rest of the crew are watching the seas waiting for the ship’s hologram Shelley to recover. The action moves to “a sleazy bar on a sleazy planet”, where clearly every Torchwood fan wants to drink, where Sir James’s killer meets up with the mysterious mastermind behind the plot. Cut back to Jack, who is “royally putting his foot in it while our attention was elsewhere.” There’s a battle in the Arctic Circle, a sexy hologram, and tons of intrigue at that sleazy bar.

The artwork throughout is excellent, and the writing crackles with the sexy, funny wit that so characterises Captain Jack. Torchwood has long been a fan favourite and it’s thrilling to have Captain Jack and Gwen back and involved in a new adventure. The three alternate covers that come with this new story are all eye-catching and so typically Torchwood. Perfect!

Fans who are still longing for the return of the show will not fail to get engrossed in this new action-packed series.
