BlogtorWho listens to the third episode of David Tennant’s new podcast series, David Tennant does a podcast with…Jodie Whittaker

At last! The Doctor interviews The Doctor! Well, not really. DT spends an hour talking with his mate Jodie. And let me tell you, dear reader, if you liked Jodie Whittaker before this podcast, you’re going to love her afterwards.

Now before we get into the podcast itself, our usual warning that this is quite a sweary one, but as always – well worth a listen.

As a guest, Whittaker is completely engaging and loveable.  She is also hugely contradictory. She is notoriously private and talks a great deal about the reasons for this, yet she’s also very honest and open when talking about her upbringing, her work and her feelings and opinions.

Whittaker gives an interesting insight into her views on being a feminist and opinionated and the importance of having different (and flawed) people to look up to.  She talks about her approach to being the first woman to play Doctor Who.  She reveals that she “played someone in a new body” rather than a new gender. She also tells of the panic she felt on watching Tennant, John Hurt and other actors to play TV’s most iconic role.  But most importantly, she talks about how she felt emotionally connected to the role.

Whittaker reflects warmly on her relationships with co-stars Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole; how comfortable they are with each other and how important that is on set.

There’s not a single bit of ego from Whittaker and she laughs at being told by fans that DT is their favourite Doctor or that they wish Ben Wishaw got the role instead of her. She also tells a hilarious tale of working with legendary Lawrence of Arabia actor Peter O’Toole and telling him how much she loved him in King Ralph.

This one you should definitely not miss whether you’re a fan of Doctor Who or not. Next week…Gandalf himself, Ian McKellen.

David Tennant does a podcast with… is created in association with Somethin’ Else and No Mystery Productions.
