Now here’s an audio release that will have you dusting off your DVD of the First Doctor story The Time Meddler.
Writer Ian Atkins brings back the meddling Time Lord known as The Monk for this 40-minute audio adventure read by actor Rufus Hound.
Under director Lisa Bowerman, best known to Doctor Who fans for voicing Professor Bernice Summerfield in a series of her own Big Finish adventures, Hound does a superb job as the narrator affecting the correct tones for the Third Doctor, companion Liz Shaw and the Time Meddler.
It’s an interesting story which sees the Monk materialise his TARDIS and free the Doctor from his exile on Earth. But things go terribly wrong when Shaw hides stowaways aboard the time ship.
While Hound, who appeared in Doctor Who Series 9 alongside Peter Capaldi, does not attempt to deliver screen accurate versions of the three characters he captures their hearts and their spirits precisely.
A lot of tender love and care has gone into this production, making it a pleasure to the ears. Highly recommended.
