Davison and Gatwa will share the screen for the first time in a new film adaptation of the West End comedy drama
Not one, but two Doctors have joined the cast of forthcoming film Frank and Percy. Doctor Who stars Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor from 1982 to 1984, and Ncuti Gatwa, who was the Fifteenth Doctor from 2023 to 2025, are among the cast adapting Ben Weatherill’s West End play.
Frank and Percy stars Sir Ian McKellan (The Snowmen, The Lord of the Rings) and Roger Allam (The Thick of It) as the titular duo. A chance encounter on Hampstead Heath sees the two men discussing their dogs, the aches and pains of aging, and their lives and regrets. Percy is a long-time activist and author, while Roger is rebuilding his life following the sudden death of his wife.
Over the years that follow, and across Pride parades, karaoke nights, and bedside hospital vigils, a deep friendship develops. And perhaps, by the end, something more.
McKellan and Allam reprise their roles from the original play. However, while the West End production was a two-hander, the film adaptation necessarily expands the action to include characters previously only mentioned, as well as new ones. Davison and Gatwa are among these, in roles still to be named.
The cast also includes Stephen Fry (Spyfall), Jessica Gunning (Partners in Crime), Felicity Kendall (The Unicorn and the Wasp), Sir Derek Jacobi (Scream of the Shalka, Utopia), and Dame Siân Phillips (73 Yards). Meanwhile, Sheila Hancock (The Happiness Patrol), Peter Straker (Destiny of the Daleks), and Dame Joanna Lumley (The Curse of Fatal Death) are some of the classic Doctor Who stars appearing in Frank and Percy.
There’s no official release date for Frank and Percy yet, but with the film currently in post-production it’s likely to be later this year or in early 2027.
