Rock-tor Who! Peter Capaldi has teamed up with Monks Road Social to release new single If I Could Pray, available now.

Guess what… there’s more than one Capaldi making a bid for musical stardom! Lewis Capaldi is still riding the success of his debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent. But now his dad’s second cousin – the Twelfth Doctor himself! – is joining the race as well. That’s right, Peter Capaldi has collaborated with the Monks Road Social label to release new single If I Could Pray, available right now on all your favourite streaming and download services.

Peter Capaldi spoke to Jo Whiley on her BBC Radio show earlier this week to promote the new single. In the interview, Peter explained that he wrote the song overnight and it is inspired by the Thomas Coram adoption agency. Long-time fans will know that this is not Peter’s first foray into the world of music. He was a member of Scottish post-punk group The Dreamboys in the 1980s, along with American talk show host Craig Ferguson. Regardless, he insists he is “not pursuing a career as a pop star”, but remained coy on any plans for future songs or an album. It all depends how this one goes!

Of course, Peter was also questioned about his involvement in Lewis Capaldi’s original music video for hit single Someone You Loved. The song enjoyed seven straight weeks at the top of the UK singles chart and recently won Best Song at the Brit Awards 2020. Peter praised Lewis’ extraordinary career, but unfortunately there are no other Capaldi collaborations planned just yet. Hopefully we’ll see them together again sometime soon.

Outside of his music, Peter’s next big project is DC movie The Suicide Squad, written and directed by James Gunn. At the time of writing though, his role is still a secret!
