Doctor Who Magazine have unveiled the details of their latest issue, due out this Thursday (30th May), which will feature an exclusive interview with the Thirteenth Doctor herself, Jodie Whittaker!
Issue #539‘s cover features a fantastic photograph of Whittaker in costume as the Doctor. It also claims to contain ‘the ONLY interview’ with the actress. She’s quoted as saying, “Everyone turned up to the party dressed as me!” It’s a safe bet that Whittaker is referring to the fancy dress party thrown by the Doctor Who cast and crew, as documented on Mandip Gill’s social media. Much to her surprise, they shocked her by all dressing the Thirteenth Doctor!
Elsewhere, this latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine promises interviews with Tenth Doctor David Tennant, and costume designer Howard Burden. Burden acted as a costume designer on Doctor Who during Series 6, 7, and 8.
It will also include a contribution from writer Eric Saward, as he previews his upcoming novelisation of his 1984 television story Resurrection of the Daleks. First announced earlier this year, Saward‘s novelisations of this classic story (as well as of Revelation of the Daleks) will see the long-awaited completion of the range of 1963 – 1989 Doctor Who novelisations. Until now, every other classic Doctor Who television story has been novelised bar these final two. Eric Saward‘s Resurrection of the Daleks and Revelation of the Daleks are due for publication later this year.
Issue #539 will also revisit 2005’s The Long Game. This episode starred Christopher Eccleston‘s Ninth Doctor, Billie Piper‘s Rose Tyler, plus Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) as the Editor.
As well as this, the issue will give us a first look at the updated surround sound mixing and special effects for 1973’s Planet of the Daleks. This new version of the serial is set to feature on the upcoming Season 10 blu-ray box set, due out this July. Much like previous Doctor Who: The Collection box sets, this latest collection will feature a wealth of previously unseen and brand-new bonus material.
