The last episode of Series 10 is over and the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is refusing to regenerate. He’s been mortally wounded by a shot from a Mondasian Cyberman. The Doctor doesn’t want to change anymore. As always, the TARDIS knows what to do and has takes where The Doctor needs to be not necessary where he wants to go.
The end of “The Doctor Falls” leads us directly into the start of the 2017 Christmas Special that will feature David Bradley as the First Doctor, a role original portrayed by William Hartnell. “The original, you might say” has the task of convincing the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) that is time. Time to regenerate.
David Bradley, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Harry Potter films, appeard in Mark Gatiss’ BBC Two’s 2013 biopic about the beginning of the iconic sci-fi series, as William Hartnell the man who was the First Doctor. Hartnell’s Doctor had a brief appearance in the 50th Anniversary special via the clever use of archive footage but this will be the first active onscreen role for the First Doctor since 1983’s Five Doctors.
