In this exclusive interview with Clark Collins of EW, the first female actress cast in the iconic role of the Doctor, Jodie Whittaker talked about thrills and fears of her new job. “There’s no rules, and it’s liberating,” she says. “But it’s equally terrifying.” She also had a chance to let us know what Thirteen’s catch-phrase would be. “My two go-to words are ‘Brilliant!’ and ‘Ace!’” says Whittaker.  We wlll have to see if there is an opportunity for the Doctor to remember a very special ‘Ace’.

Collins was also able to chat with showrunner and lead writer, Chris Chibnall. Chibnall commented on how it was the right time for a female Doctor.   “I just felt the time was right.” He elaborated on his reasons for casting Whittaker, “I think if the show hadn’t done it, we would have been behind the world, and Doctor Who has got to be out front leading the world, and being a great example of all the amazing things that are in the world. So, it wasn’t even a question in my mind.”

The article cover more details from the set including some discussions with Whittaker’s co-stars Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh.  To read the full article visit EW.com or purchase the magazine at a newstand near you.
