Class writer Patrick Ness is hoping to make a splash when his new novel, And The Ocean Was Our Sky, releases on 6th September.

It’s a busy time for Patrick Ness. There’s a theatre adaptation of his award-winning A Monster Calls playing at the Old Vic theatre in London. Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland are starring in a big-budget film version of his Chaos Walking series, due to hit cinemas next year. And now, in just a couple of weeks, he’ll have a brand new novel out as well!

And The Ocean Was Our Sky is a haunting tale of power and obsession that promises to turn the classic story of Moby Dick upside down. Written by Patrick Ness, illustrated by Rovina Cai, and published by Walker Books, the novel has been described as “mind-bendingly brilliant and fearlessly strange” by children’s author Frances Hardinge.

If you’re eager to whet your appetite, a digital sampler of And The Ocean Was Our Sky is available to read online now.

Synopsis

“Call me Bathsheba.” The whales of Bathsheba’s pod live for the hunt. Led by the formidable Captain Alexandra, they fight a never-ending war against men. Then the whales attack a man ship, and instead of easy prey they find the trail of a myth, a monster, perhaps the devil himself… With their relentless Captain leading the chase, they embark on the final hunt, one that will forever change the worlds of whales and men.

And The Ocean Was Our Sky by Patrick Ness is available from 6th September.
