A special logo devoted specially to the Diamond Anniversary has been released for Doctor Who Day. And it’s… what else? A diamond!
In a bit of a surprise, the BBC have revealed today that the recently revealed revamp of the classic diamond logo is not the 60th Anniversary logo. Instead the official icon of next year’s diamond anniversary will be a variant with an actual diamond, with glittering transparent aspects, and a bar reading “60 YEARS” across the bottom.
It’s unconfirmed, but we can probably guess that the regular version will appear in the actual credits of the TV show, while the 60 YEARS version appears on official merchandise and promotional material. In fact, you can already pre-order the official 60th Anniversary t-shirt from Forbidden Planet as part of their Diamond Collection. The 60th Anniversary t-shirt is available to pre-order in both unisex and women’s fits.
Forbidden Planet’s also unveiled more of its Diamond Collection with a one day only sale for Doctor Who Day
Popular comic book shop and online retailer Forbidden Planet also offered a preview of the Diamond Collection today. For one day only they marked Doctor Who Day by making fifteen items from the collection available to buy. The items will be available to buy again over the course of the next year, as each month focuses on a different incarnation of the world’s favourite Time Lord. November continues to focus on William Hartnell’s First Doctor while December will see a range of products dedicated to Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor.
Considering that it’s not even the 60th Anniversary year yet and that it’s actually the 59th Anniversary today, it’s clear that we can expect a lot of excitement and fun coming our way in terms of merchandise and other tie-ins in 2023.
