A new fan music video embraces everything wonderful about one of the most iconic Doctor Who companions: Ace!
Ace (or I Wanna Be Like Sophie Aldred) is a new Doctor Who fan music video by The Kids in Spacesuits celebrating the Seventh Doctor’s companion. The video stars Esme James as a teenage Doctor Who fan. She’s a quiet young girl, bullied at school and misunderstood at home. But she dreams of becoming as strong as her favourite TV hero: Ace! Wonderfully the video includes Sophie Aldred herself as the fan’s Mum. She’s unable to understand her daughter’s obsession with a silly TV show or why she loses herself in a daydream of adventure so much better than the real world. But can the power of the greatest show in the galaxy bring mother and daughter together?
The rest of the video is full of fun references for fans to spot too. From question mark jumpers to Red Kangs, Ace (or I Wanna Be Like Sophie Aldred) is a tremendous love letter to 80s Doctor Who.
