It is not yet December but Christmas is already in the air. And tonight, the BBC have released a new iconic picture and the synopsis for the Doctor Who Christmas special ‘Twice Upon a Time’.
The hour-long special is written the last episode written by showrunner and lead writer Steven Moffat. It is directed by fan favourite Rachel Talalay, and executive produced by Brian Minchin. The guest stars include David Bradley as The First Doctor, Mark Gatiss as The Captain and Nikki Amuka-Bird as the voice of the glass woman. This will be the last episode for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor as he regenerates into the Thirteenth Doctor and hands over the keys to the TARDIS to Jodie Whittaker.
‘Twice Upon A Time’ will air on Christmas Day. BBC also will be treating many people to an early Christmas as they take the upcoming Christmas special ‘Twice Upon a Time’ on the road in December. For more details on the early screenings see our earlier blog.
Twice Upon A Time – The Doctor Who Christmas Special
The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley – Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure.
Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor’s story.
An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning…
It sounds like an incredible adventure and a fitting end to the Capaldi and Moffat era. And with Moffat hinting that the regeneration is different this time, it’ll also provide an exciting introduction to the Thirteenth Doctor.
The synopsis also opens up some tantalising questions for the Christmas Special. Who are the enchanted glass people? And remember, we haven’t seen them yet, so what will they look like? Who is Mark Gatiss’ World War One captain? How does Bill Potts return?
All these questions and more will be answered on Christmas Day. Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time airs on Christmas Day 2017 on BBC One and BBC America.
