Murray Gold’s “Kafka The Musical” with David Tennant

Airing on Easter Sunday is a new drama from composer Murray Gold and starring former Doctor Who, David Tennant. Details below:

Murray Gold’s new play starts from the suitably Kafkaesque premise that Franz Kafka finds he has to play himself in a musical about his own life. The play – or is it the musical? – introduces Kafka and the audience to some of the key characters in his life: Milena Jesenska, Dora Diamant and Felice Bauer.

David Tennant takes on the role of Franz Kafka in this play directed by Jeremy Mortimer. Music is by Murray Gold, who also wrote the theme tune for the Channel 4 series Shameless and scored the period drama The Devil’s Whore.

Kafka The Musical will be released as a Play Of The Week podcast the Friday after broadcast (29 April). Murray Gold talks about the show HERE.

  1. This play is simply…amazing, and even that is an understatement. I listened to it twice, and I still could not distinguish between what was the play and what was real life. Murray Gold and David Tennant…I could not have asked for a better combination!
