Many Doctor Who stars appeared this weekend at the London Film and Comic Con, which was held at the Olympia. Three Doctors and many guest stars signed autographs and shared stories from their time on Doctor Who.
One of the highlights of the LFCC was the appearance of Michelle Gomez, better known as Missy. She is a fan favourite, and the giant stack of photos to be signed was nearly gone by Sunday. Gomez has a famous sense of humour, and she amused and delighted fans by appearing on Sunday afternoon with a classic Master Roger Delgado beard, drawn on for a TV interview. Gomez simply left the beard on for the rest of the day, worn with the cat ears from another fan. She’d been given a knitted Dalek on Saturday and had promptly named it Phil.

Missy was one of the most common cosplay costumes seen at both the MCM and the LFCC, and she appeared in all sizes. Gomez was particularly thrilled to meet a child-sized version of her character. Missy’s Victorian spinster dress coupled with her nasty way of killing those around makes for a character who feels fresh and fascinating. Previous incarnations of the Master have not been so nuanced. As Gomez put it in an earlier interview, “Missy is a force of nature. She is a fearless, slightly psychotic killer whom you can’t help but like just a little bit.”
Gomez had been asked to sell some items for charity – so she said,“I’m selling my backwash,” and then added a marshmallow biscuit “because it looks like a Dalek.” After two long days at the convention, she said, “I’m slightly losing my mind now, but I’m just going with it. Overall, it’s been amazing. It’s been intense, but wonderful because you get to talk to everyone. It still blows my mind that I’ve got a fan, let alone ten,” she marvelled, pointing to the literal sea of Missy fans, waiting patiently for an autograph from the Master herself.
Word has it that Michelle Gomez will be back for series 10 of Doctor Who and so she should! No doubt taunting the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and playing havoc with with new companion Bill played by Pearl Mackie.
London Film and Comic Con returns next year.

Ah lovely article! And my daughter is really pleased to be included. So glad that Michelle loved her Dalek too 😀
Michelle has more fans in the U.S. than she realizes…
