Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Enemies of the Universe, is an illustrated “biography” of everyone’s favourite Doctor Who enemies.
This book goes through the complete history of the Daleks. We follow them from their origins as the Kaled through to the events leading up to their becoming Daleks, those exterminating monsters we know (and somehow love), through to present day, and beyond.
This isn’t to say that this is just a retelling, oh no, there are going to be new stories and comics as well. After all this is being called the Daleks “never-before told history”.
If you weren’t already excited, there will also be behind the scenes information from the voice of the Daleks, in the new series of Doctor Who as well as at Big Finish, Nicholas Briggs, and from David Howe, a Doctor Who historian and writer.
The Writers
Authors George Mann, Justin Richards and Cavan Scott are behind the upcoming book and they are more than qualified to guide us through this history. Each writer is well established and versed in the world of Doctor Who. If you aren’t familiar with their names, you have likely already read something they’ve done.

George Mann wrote the War Doctor novel, Engines of War. Cavan Scott writes the ongoing stories for the Ninth Doctor at Titan Comics and recently wrote the novel The Shining Man for the Twelfth Doctor. While, Justin Richards, at one point was the range editor for Doctor Who books with BBC Worldwide. There are not three more qualified writers out there to tell the tale of the Daleks in such a way.
This Hardcover book is 320 pages filled with images, and stories of the Daleks. Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Enemies of the Universe is due for release October 26th in Britain, retailing for £35.00 and $35.99 in the US scheduled for October 24th.
In two minds about buying this one… Several reviews on Amazon are very bad: they all say that the CG Daleks artwork is crap. Even the one good(ish) review the book got said that the CG art was diabolical. Also, I don’t think there is anything on Abslom Daak in the book. Massive Dalek fan, but I’m not sure….
