MegaCon brings the Whoniverse to Dublin in January 2025
MegaCon returns to Dublin next month for another another highlight of the Irish convention calendar. But this time they’re providing what’s probably the biggest ever event for Irish Doctor Who fans. There will be no fewer than seven stars of the TV Whoniverse in attendance at the RDS on the 18th and 19th of January. Headlining the gathering will be the Eighth Doctor himself, Paul McGann. Doctor Who stars Sophie Alrdred (Ace) and Jemma Redgrave (Kate Lethbridge-Stewart) will be there along with Torchwood’s Gareth David Lloyd (Ianto Jones), Naoko Mori (Tosh Sato), and Kai Owen (Rhys Williams.) Girl in the Fireplace guest star Sophia Myles and Big Finish UNIT regular Tracey Wiles will also be at MegaCon.
This is largest single Doctor Who invasion of an Irish convention Blogtor Who can remember, and several of the stars have never attended an event in Ireland before. All these guests will be signing on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be individual photo opportunities with each actor, as well two group photos available. One group photo is with McGann, Aldred, Redgrave, and Myles, while the other features the Torchwood cast of David Lloyd, Mori, and Owen.
MegaCon Dublin regularly boasts its own TARDIS set, and expect Doctor Who panels and an army of cosplayers too
Past MegaCons have featured a TARDIS Police Box and 1970s style console to take photos with. While the presence of these isn’t yet confirmed, they will probably return again. You can also expect to see members of the Doctor Who cosplay group The Eye of HarmoNI with their wide variety of costumes and replica props from the show, from Clockwork Droids and Ace to a universe of different Doctors. If fans are lucky, Paul McGann may well bring along his Power of the Doctor costume for photos too.
Similarly, the timetable of panels isn’t out yet, but it’s safe to assume there will be a variety of talks from the Doctor Who and Torchwood teams.
You can order your tickets for MegaCon Dublin from their official site now. Pre-orders for autographs and photo ops are also live. Today, the 23rd of December is your deadline, though, for booking at the Clayton Hotel next door to the RDS at the special discounted rate.
