Writer Rona Munro began her writing career in 1981 writing plays for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and for film, TV and radio. When she was accepted onto the BBC writer’s training course, she met the then script editor, Andrew Cartmel, who gave her the opportunity to write the last, but not ever, episode of the classic Doctor Who series back in 1989! Her story Survival saw the introduction of the mighty tribe like Cheetah people. Who’s for seeing their return? Hands up!

She is also the first ‘classic’ series writer to have written for the revived series. Jealous much?  Also if you want to hear more about Survival see our post from Mat Greenfield on the classic episode.

Director Charles Palmer began his career in the camera department where his passion led him to work on documentaries and even music videos for Pink Floyd and Mary Poppins herself, Julie Andrews. (I wonder whether he got to boogie on down?) In 2001, he worked on a short film which starred Bill Nighy and Miranda Richardson which led him to work on some of the most loved BBC productions including Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, Poldark, Death in Paradise and hopefully his most memorable job to date- Doctor Who!

Guest Star Rebecca Benson as Kar trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She was born in Edinburgh which would have pleased the Twelfth Doctor immensely! Rebecca has also worked with The National Theatre of Scotland. Who else thinks there should be more stories set in Scotland?

Actor Daniel Kerr who plays Ban is known for his work in the films 4 O’clock Club (2012) and The Wee Man (2013), as well as, the known romance/sci-fi drama Outlander. Maybe the Doctor is a member of a similar club?

Aaron Phagura who plays Marcus has starred in Suburban Dracula (2015), The Coroner (2015) and Unforgotten (2015). If you take these titles and link them together you could imagine it could have been the initial idea behind the Eleventh Doctor Story Vampires of Venice (2010).

Sam Adewunmi as Vitus has had roles in the films Dixi (2014), The Hatton Garden Job (2017) and will appear in drama Born a King next year. The name Dixi makes me think the Doctor should get a horse and call her Dixi. Just a thought…

Ben Hunter as Thracius has appeared in short films Mad Blake (2003), Pass on Conversation (2008), HOTT MT: Glass Sun (2013) and in the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation (2005). I wonder what the initials stand for in the last short film?

Brian Vernel as Lucius has appeared in Offender (2012), Let Us Pray (2014) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). Which do you think Brian prefers to have been in- Doctor Who or Star Wars? Which would you choose? He also was in theatre version of Takin’ Over the Asylum playing the same role as David Tennant.  Looney and Proud!!
