Could Doctor Who’s very own Matt Smith cross dimensions into a galaxy far far away?
With a new Star Wars film comes a slew of casting rumours. And with the highly anticipated The Rise of Skywalker set for release this December comes a mysterious casting from the world of Doctor Who.
The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith is rumoured to be in the upcoming film, however we should take this news with a pinch of salt as the actor himself (speaking to the LA Times) said in March, after a casting report from Variety said that he was in a ‘key role’. “As far as I can tell, I’m definitely not in it.”
These rumours have been fuelled even further as recently the UK’s official Disney website has recently released a trailer that has Matt Smith listed in the cast list. So is this just a very anti-climatic announcement of the casting? Or a very big mistake made by someone who believed the rumours? Certainly, the Disney site seems pretty definitive, saying:
“Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.”
Though Lucasfilm have been very quiet on the matter, it’s certainly possible Smith is in the film. The recent Celebration Chicago – The Rise of Skywalker panel only concentrating on the main (Light Side) cast. Many things remain to be announced between now and December, with details such as more information on Richard E Grant’s character yet to be revealed. We know that actors have been sworn to secrecy about such castings in the past.
Blogtor Who believes that Matt Smith would be a great addition to the Star Wars universe. After all, he’s already proved to be an excellent Doctor. And, more than that, an excellent actor in his post-Doctor Who career in series like The Crown.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on the 19th of December.
