Excellent news has been recently announced for one of our favourite book publishers, Candy Jar Books! The Lucy Wilson Mysteries: Curse of the Mirror Clowns, written by Chris Lynch, has been nominated for the prestigious Scribe Awards.
You’re no doubt aware of the Scribe Awards but what exactly are they? They’re the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers. They acknowledge and celebrate excellence in licensed tie-in novels and audio dramas based on TV shows, movies, and games. While the Lucy Wilson Mysteries may not seem like a direct spin-off from the world of Doctor Who, she is. Lucy is the granddaughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and has spawned out of the Lethbridge-Stewart book range.
Curse of the Mirror Clowns is the second book in this range with more books to follow. Coming up next is a direct crossover with Lethbridge-Stewart in The Brigadier and the Bledoe Cadets.
Lucy Wilson was created by Shaun Russell and Andy Frankham-Allen. However, the characters first book was written by Young Adult writer Sue Hampton. Russell, head of publishing at Candy Jar said of Hampton’s take on Lucy Wilson: “Sue’s instinct with the first book Avatars of the Intelligence was spot-on. She got the characters straight away and delivered a book reminiscent of the popular Sarah Jane Adventures, also based on Doctor Who.”
Hampton shows some pride in her work and the legacy that continues as she says “Lucy is dauntless, loyal and whip-smart. She’s a modern girl with strong values and opinions, which means that she feels the injustices in the world even more strongly than most and always stands up for what’s right. I wish Chris good luck with the awards.”
Despite being up against some stiff and well-known competition writer Chris Lynch remains optimistic and perhaps a little proud: “I was delighted to discover I’d been nominated for this award. I’m certainly in illustrious company! Hopefully my clowns are up to the challenge.”
Regardless of the outcome, we at Blogtor Who are all excited for The Lucy Wilson Mysteries and wish it all the best!
