Actress Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) began shooting her debut feature film, Not Another Happy Ending, yesterday (Sun 22 July) in Glasgow, Scotland. The film, which stars Karen as quirky writer Jane Lockhart, shot the first of its scenes in the city’s West End.

Karen was joined on the first day by her French co-star and male lead Stanley Weber (Trap for Cinderella, The Borgias) and Iain de Caestecker (Shell, Up There). Supporting cast on the film include Henry Ian Cusick (Lost, 24), Gary Lewis (Neds, Billy Elliott), Kate Dickie (Prometheus, Red Road), Amy Manson (Crossmaglen) and Freya Mavor (Skins).

Directed by John Mackay (Crush, We’ll Take Manhattan), Not Another Happy Ending is a quirky comedy that sees Karen play a headstrong and passionate writer who suffers a serious bout of writers block in her second novel. Desperate to get her writing again, Jane’s publisher embarks on an ill-fated campaign to unblock her – by making her unhappy. It is written by David Solomons.
Karen will also take the lead role in Mike Flanagan’s Oculus, which begins shooting later this year whilst her final Doctor Who episodes as Amy Pond will be aired on BBC One in the autumn.
