You can meet Doctor Who icon Sophie Aldred for a live stream Q&A on the 11th of October

Ace herself, Sophie Aldred, will be taking part in a special live stream on the 11th of October. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the Q&A, which begins at 7pm BST, and is hosted by Lovarzi. The company is well known as the official licencee for a host of Doctor Who clothing and accessories. These include everyday items like scarves, gloves, and bags, as well as cosplay recreations. With the Seventh Doctor’s jumper, umbrella, scarf and handkerchief among Lovarzi’s catalogue, his companion Ace is an appropriate choice to kick off their TARDIS Timestream events.

The event will take place on Lovarzi’s YouTube channel, and you can register here. (If the form doesn’t appear, you may need try another browser or go to this direct link.). There will also be a special giveaway for fans on the day.

Aldred’s character Ace was the prototype for a whole new century of modern companions

Sophie Aldred first appeared as Ace in 1987’s Dragonfire. A teenager from 1980s Perivale mysteriously stranded by a ‘time storm’ on Iceworld in the distant future, the Doctor promised to bring Ace home. Naturally, though, they went the long way round. Between Seasons 24 and 26, the two battled Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master together. Not to mention vampires, planet eating demons, and malign gods from the dawn of time.

Most of Ace’s predecessors as the Doctor’s companions were people like teachers, scientists, or airline cabin crew. That’s if they weren’t aliens from Gallifrey, Alzarius, or Traken. Both Ace being a modern day teenager looking for adventure, and the depiction of the council estate she came from, is often cited as a bridge to the modern era. Ace wouldn’t have a successor until 2005. When she arrived she was Rose Tyler…

Ace eventually returned to Doctor Who in 2022 for The Power of the Doctor. In Jodie Whittaker’s final episode, she and Yaz were joined by some old friends, including Sophie Aldred as Ace. Back in action, defending UNIT HQ and destroying Daleks with her baseball bat, it was like she’d never left.

If you have a question for Sophie Aldred, register now, and make sure to log on for the TARDIS Timestream on Friday the 11th of October at 7pm.
