Sir Ian McKellan meets his match in Doctor Who’s John Bishop as the pair star as wife and husband in riotous musical comedy panto Mother Goose
“Once they’ve seen your Twankey, a Goose will surely follow,” as Sir Ian McKellan himself described the Shakespearean actor’s return to panto for Mother Goose. The knight of the stage becomes a Dame as he stars as Mother Goose herself at Thursday at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London before embarking on an international tour. Joining him is Doctor Who’s John Bishop, playing Mother Goose’s husband Vic Goose. Described by What’s On Stage’s review as “the perfect straight man, in ever sense,” it falls to Bishop’s Vic to try and keep the couple’s feet on the ground when a whirlwind of events causes Mother Goose to become an international celebrity.
The riotous musical comedy remains at the Duke of York’s Theatre until the 29th of January before its tour of the UK and Ireland. McKellan has described it as likely his final panto, so make sure not to miss out!
