The Graham Norton Show returns for a 24th season on Friday, the 28th of September. And Doctor Who will be joining him on the couch.
Friday nights are set to come alive again, as Graham Norton returns to BBC One for a 24th season. He brings his trademark combination of wit, anecdote and light public humiliation with him. New Doctor Jodie Whittaker will be one of Norton’s guests for the launch, promoting Doctor Who in the final week before The Woman Who Fell to Earth kicks off Series 11.
The Graham Norton Show has enjoyed a long association with Doctor Who since it began in 2007. David Tennant has been a guest an incredible six times. This includes appearances to promote Series Three, The End of Time and The Day of the Doctor. Matt Smith joined Tennant on the couch for The Day of the Doctor, and was on the show a further four times in his own right, for A Christmas Carol and The Widow, the Doctor and the Wardrobe among other projects. Peter Capaldi has been there to launch Series Eight, The Husbands of River Song, and Series Ten. Billie Piper, Catherine Tate, Karen Gillan, Jenna Coleman, and Matt Lucas are also among the galaxy of stars that have joined in the fun over the years.
The common thread in all their appearances has been a tremendous sense of fun and good humour. The Graham Norton Show remains the best place to see your favourite Doctor Who stars would be like as guests at the best party you’ve ever thrown.

More notoriously, Norton has twice launched invasions of Doctor Who itself. During the all important broadcast of Rose, Norton talking backstage on Strictly Dance Fever bled over Doctor Who’s soundtrack. It’s a moment even acknowledged in Russell T Davies’ Target novelization. There Rose Tyler hears Norton’s voice echoing around the Henrick’s basement from a radio somewhere. Then in 2010, the dramatic cliffhanger of The Time of the Angels was partially obscured by an animated Norton. But more often Norton’s been a welcome part of the extended Doctor Who family – having appeared in the non-canonical mini-episodes such as Dermot and the Doctor, Looking for Pudsey and Sprout Boy Meets a Galaxy of Stars.
Other guests alongside Whittaker are A Star is Born’s Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga and First Man’s Ryan Gosling. Music will be provided by Rod Stewart.
