The BBC have released a new picture to mark the end of an era, as Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill finish filming for Doctor Who

After three years, Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill‘s time in the TARDIS has sadly come to an end. It has been confirmed today that both actors have wrapped their final scenes as the Doctor and Yaz, as they complete shooting for next year’s trio of Doctor Who specials, which will culminate in the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration.

Mandip Gill posted this message to her Instagram profile to commemorate the end of her time filming on Doctor Who:

Jodie Whittaker has previously spoken to the BBC of her bittersweet feelings about leaving the role behind, saying:

“In 2017 I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I was to see in them. My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team who make it, for the fans who watch it and for what it has brought to my life. And I cannot thank Chris [Chibnall] enough for entrusting me with his incredible stories. We knew that we wanted to ride this wave side by side, and pass on the baton together. So here we are, weeks away from wrapping on the best job I have ever had. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express what this role has given me. I will carry the Doctor and the lessons I’ve learnt forever.

“I know change can be scary and none of us know what’s out there. That’s why we keep looking. Travel Hopefully. The Universe will surprise you. Constantly.”

Doctor Who‘s 2022 specials will of course be preceded by the revived show’s thirteenth series, entitled Doctor Who: Flux. This six-part series is due to premiere in just over two weeks’ time, on Sunday 31st October.

Whittaker and Gill will also be joined for Series 13 by John Bishop, who’ll take on the role of new companion Dan Lewis. Perhaps his absence from this newly-released wrap photo suggests that Dan will not appear in next year’s specials, but only time will tell. The new TARDIS team will also star alongside Jacob Anderson in the recurring role of Vinder throughout Series 13.

Doctor Who: Flux will premiere on Sunday 31st October, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, alongside Mandip Gill as Yaz, John Bishop as Dan, plus Jacob Anderson as Vinder.
