With only two weeks to go until the Christmas special, ITV have confirmed that Victoria – and its star, Jenna Coleman – will return for a third series.
Following a hugely successful second season earlier this year, it’s no surprise that there’s even more yet to come. Series 2 still hasn’t premiered in the US (it starts 14th January on Masterpiece), but already we can look forward to what’s coming next. After the Christmas Day special, Comfort and Joy, there’ll be an entire third run of episodes – presumably to be filmed and aired sometime in 2018.
According to Victoria writer Daisy Goodwin, Series 3 will start in 1848. This was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty around the monarchy. Viewers can apparently expect more drama than ever before (as if there hasn’t been enough already!).
After some high-profile recasting in Netflix show The Crown, some had wondered if Victoria would also see a similar shake-up. Well, for those worrying, have no fear. Jenna Coleman herself will definitely be returning to the throne as Queen Victoria. ITV have also confirmed that Tom Hughes will reprise his role as Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert.
