Lewis Capaldi has finally revealed how Peter Capaldi came to star in the heartbreaking music video for his number one single, Someone You Loved.
At the start of February, a music video by singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi (described by some as “the Scottish Ed Sheeran”) went viral. Someone You Loved was an instant hit for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it put organ donation front and centre in the minds of millions. But, in a genius move, Lewis also enlisted the help of his dad’s second cousin. Who, it turns out, just so happens to be the Twelfth Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi.
Following four straight weeks at the top of the UK singles chart, Lewis Capaldi has finally revealed how the Doctor Who actor got involved with his song. In a video interview with NME, Lewis explains that it was a surprisingly straightforward process. In short: his record label wanted to drum up as much awareness for the organ donation cause as possible. Lewis’ response? “I suppose Peter Capaldi could do it”.
Lewis admits this was a “totally absent-minded” suggestion, but once the record label heard it, they were keen to get Peter on board if they could. Lewis’ manager emailed Peter’s agent, and the next day he got a phone call back from Peter himself. The rest, as they say, is history!
If you haven’t heard the song yet or just want to show your continued support, it is available to stream and download from all the usual places. It will also feature as a track on Lewis’ upcoming debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which releases on 17th May and is available to pre-order now. Fans can also catch Lewis on his sold-out world tour later this year.
