Bedford Who Charity Con returns for its fifth year, with another stellar line up of guests supporting Bedford Food Bank
Next month, on Saturday the 13th of April the University of Bedfordshire plays host to a one day Doctor Who convention. Since their first convention, Bedford Who Charity Con have raised almost £14,000 for Bedford Food Bank.
Unlike the average convention, the emphasis is less on selling merchandise and paid photo sessions. Instead there’s a mixture of stage interviews, performances by the actors, signing sessions, the opportunity to meet the guests, get their autographs, and have your photo taken with them.
The Doctor Who guests announced so far for this year are:
- Sylvester McCoy (The Seventh Doctor)
- Carole Ann Ford (Susan)
- Louise Jameson (Leela)
- Janet Fielding (Tegan Jovanka)
- Sophie Aldred (Ace)
- Michael Jayston (The Valeyard)
- Mike Tucker (author and member of the Model Unit FX team from Doctor Who)
Also present at Bedford Who Charity Con will be the author Frank Danes. Danes has written a book in support of the con and Bedford Foodbank. Six Decades of Adventure in Space and Time – A social, cultural and screen history of Doctor Who, is a comprehensive new overview of the show from an insightful new angle. In it, Frank Danes not only discusses the program itself, but discusses the social aspect for being a Doctor Who viewer and fan and how that has changed across the decades. It also examines how changes in culture and society from 1963 to 2018 have impacted the show’s own values. And it also looks behind the scenes at the personal and professional relationships which shaped Doctor Who’s development. Copies are priced £15 and can be bought through IM Foreman’s Junkyard or on the day, and Danes will be signing copies at Bedford Who Charity Con. Contact [email protected] for details.
